Drinking Up the Warm Weather

SudlandhausOn my way to the open-air market in Mannheim I was seduced by a store selling sparkling wines--Champagne, cava, crmant, sekt--they were all being poured by the glass.

Not only was there a line at the stand in front of the store (pictured here), there was a line inside the store, filled with people pointing to various Italian-style cold cuts that eventually found their way to the diners outside. Salami and cheese platters of various sizes, garnished with olives and served with bread paraded out the door, to be eaten with a beverage of choice.

There were so many people milling about, standing at tall tables, (there was no seating), talking and laughing, eating and drinking. I loved the festival atmosphere and wondered where in the U.S. I might find a similar experience. Do you know?
